Polling rate, plainly explained
Polling rate = how many times per second your controller reports its state. 125 Hz means every 8 ms; 1000 Hz means every 1 ms.
Hz is only half the story
Stability matters as much as peak rate. A steady 125 Hz beats a spiky 500 Hz with dropouts. Jitter (variation in frame time) is what you feel as inconsistent aim.
Browser limits
Web pages sample gamepads once per animation frame, so observed Hz tracks display refresh (about 60 to 120+). No browser tool measures true end-to-end (photon-to-photon) lag. Ours measures host polling cadence, the component you can actually improve with cable choice.
When to care
Fast shooters and rhythm games: chase stable wired connections. Casual and turn-based: anything consistent is fine. Spend the effort on drift checks instead.
